Opening Reception is October 6th 1PM-3PM
“To create these pieces, I first decide on what yarns I want to use to create a weaving on my loom. I wind what is called a warp to thread the loom. This process of selecting the yarns, winding the warp and then putting (threading) it on the loom is all done on my floor loom.
I weave the piece on the loom, creating open areas for the printing ink to create the woven patterns on the paper.
Once woven, I ink up what is called a matrix, in one one or more colors. The matrix is a plexiglass sheet. I lay the weaving on the inked up matrix and run it through the press. It is important to to make sure I get good coverage on the woven cloth. Next I ink up a second matrix or plate with the background color, run that through the press, creating a one color background on the paper. Lastly, I lay the inked up weaving on the background paper and run it through the press.” - Martha Brownscombe
